We at the PTA as working dog owner’s are members of NWTF and have been assigned certificates to hand out to PTA members stating that your dog is a working Plummer Terrier registered with us, and that it is to be used for lawful pest control. We are the only club that is eligible to issue these certificates for Plummer Terriers to have their tails docked.
If you intend to breed a litter of working plummer Terrier puppies please contact the PTA Registrar. A certificate will be issued subject to receipt of relevant documentation, Stating that the Plummer Terrier Association is a member club of the National Working Terrier Federation, along with a letter stating that you the breeder are a member of the Plummer Terrier Association and that the puppies will be registered with the Association and that they will also be worked on a regular basis. This is to satisfy the Animal Welfare Act exemption for working dogs. You will be issued with the relevant certificate for each puppy to take to the Vets at the time of docking, and the Vet will then fill it in stating that he or she has lawfully docked the puppy’s tails. This certificate along with copies of the letter and the NWTF certificate, must be given to the new owner of the puppy, the new owner then has to have the puppy microchipped before it is 3 months old, if they do not this it will invalidate the docking certificate, and as such it will be classed as an illegal docking. Most Vets will ask for proof that the puppy they are being asked to microchip is the puppy that has been docked. We would advise you to send off the registration card for the puppy on the same day it has been sold so that we at the PTA can send the new owner a pedigree as soon as possible.
